History & background

Established in March 2003 as a self-financing public medical institute in Rahim Yar Khan, named in honour of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan of the UAE. Its first batch began academic activities at Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur, in 2003 due to incomplete construction, with the Rahim Yar Khan campus becoming functional in January 2005. PMDC granted recognition in 2007, and in 2008 the Punjab government converted all self-finance seats to open merit; a new campus was completed in 2017.

Location

Rahim Yar Khan is an agricultural and industrial city in the far south of Punjab near the borders with Sindh and Balochistan, historically part of the Bahawalpur princely state and a hub for cotton, sugar and textile industries.
