Established around 2011-2012 on the initiative of then-Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif as one of six public medical colleges in Lahore, under the Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI). It is named after Dr. Ameer-ud-Din, a Mayo Hospital surgery professor who, following Partition, treated victims of communal violence and donated proceeds from the sale of his personal house in Gulberg to develop the Paediatric Surgery Ward at Mayo Hospital.
