Established on 18 March 1974 as Rawalpindi Medical College, initially set up in Faisalabad before relocating to an incomplete building on Tipu Road, Rawalpindi, on 5 November 1974. Founding principal Prof. Abdul Latif secured affiliation with Holy Family Hospital (established 1948, with missionary roots dating to 1909) in 1977. The college was upgraded to university status as Rawalpindi Medical University in May 2017.

Location

Rawalpindi is a historic garrison city and headquarters of the Pakistan Army, functioning as the twin city of the national capital Islamabad. It grew rapidly under British colonial cantonment development and remains a major transport and military hub in northern Punjab.
