Khyber Medical University
Peshawar, KPK
Overview
Khyber Medical University is the public admitting and degree-awarding authority in Peshawar, KPK — it doesn't run its own separate MBBS/BDS cohort. Students take the ETEA and are seated at one of its constituent colleges: Khyber Medical College, Khyber Girls Medical College, Ayub Medical College, Bacha Khan Medical College, Gomal Medical College, Saidu Medical College, Nowshera Medical College.
History & background
Khyber Medical University (KMU) was established in January 2007 under the Khyber Medical University Act passed by the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, created to oversee and expand medical, dental and allied-health education across the province. It absorbed and now affiliates older institutions such as Khyber Medical College (founded 1954), the oldest medical college in KPK, as constituent colleges. KMU does not run its own separate MBBS/BDS teaching cohort; since 2018 it has also served as the centralized induction/placement authority for public-sector medical colleges across KP, ranking ETEA candidates and seating them at named constituent colleges — Khyber Medical College and Khyber Girls Medical College (Peshawar), Ayub Medical College (Abbottabad), Bacha Khan Medical College (Mardan), Gomal Medical College (Dera Ismail Khan), Saidu Medical College (Swat), and Nowshera Medical College (Nowshera).
Location
Peshawar is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in South Asia, historically a key trading post on the ancient routes linking Central and South Asia via the Khyber Pass. It has long served as the administrative and educational hub of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and hosts KMU's headquarters alongside two of its constituent colleges (Khyber Medical College and Khyber Girls Medical College).

Notable facts
- KMU is the affiliating/examining university and, since 2018, the centralized admission authority for most public-sector medical and dental colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
- It was established via a provincial legislative act specifically to decentralize and regulate health-sciences education in KPK.
- Its oldest constituent college, Khyber Medical College, dates to 1954.
- Candidates take the ETEA entrance test, then are ranked and seated by KMU into one of its seven public MBBS constituent colleges — there is no separate "KMU campus" cohort.
Admission criteria
You don't apply "to" Khyber Medical University the way you would to a single-campus college — it's the admitting/degree-awarding authority, and seats are held by named constituent colleges: Khyber Medical College, Khyber Girls Medical College, Ayub Medical College, Bacha Khan Medical College, Gomal Medical College, Saidu Medical College, Nowshera Medical College. Merit is still computed under the standard weightage: Matric 10% + FSc/HSSC 40% + ETEA 50%. Check each constituent college's own profile for its actual closing merit and seat count.
Eligibility
- FSc Pre-Medical (or equivalent) with at least 60% marks
- Qualifying ETEA score, at or above each constituent college's published cutoff
- Eligibility to a specific seat depends on which constituent college you're ranked into: Khyber Medical College, Khyber Girls Medical College, Ayub Medical College, Bacha Khan Medical College, Gomal Medical College, Saidu Medical College, Nowshera Medical College
- Domicile / provincial quota requirements as published by the relevant constituent college
- Age, medical fitness, and character certificate per PMDC rules
Application process
- Appear in the ETEA and clear the cutoff.
- Apply through the central admissions portal for ETEA.
- Submit FSc, Matric, entrance-test, domicile and CNIC documents.
- Wait for the merit list — you'll be seated at one of the constituent colleges (Khyber Medical College, Khyber Girls Medical College, Ayub Medical College, Bacha Khan Medical College, Gomal Medical College, Saidu Medical College, Nowshera Medical College), not at Khyber Medical University itself. Confirm your seat and deposit dues at whichever constituent college you're allotted.
