Established in 2010 as one of four new King Edward Medical University-planned medical colleges; Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif laid its foundation stone on 27 November 2010. The first batch of 100 students admitted in 2010-11 initially studied at Quaid-e-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur, before shifting to the D.G. Khan campus in November 2011. The attached DHQ Teaching Hospital, originally a small civil hospital from 1901, was upgraded to 500 beds.

Location

Dera Ghazi Khan is a city on the west bank of the Indus River in southern Punjab, historically a gateway between Punjab and Balochistan and named after Baloch chieftain Ghazi Khan Mirrani, serving as an administrative and trade hub for the surrounding Seraiki and Baloch communities.
