Bolan Medical College was established in 1972 during the tenure of Balochistan Chief Minister Ataullah Mengal, admitting its first MBBS class that year and graduating its first batch in 1978. It was upgraded to full university status as the Bolan University of Medical & Health Sciences (BUMHS) in 2017 via a Balochistan Assembly act, becoming the province's first and only medical university.
